Intuition, Your Best Business Partner by Mary Jo Wehniainen How many times have you felt a little “nudge” not to do something, but you couldn’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t? You may have even spent time weighing out the pros and cons, thinking through what would happen if you took that particular course of action… and STILL couldn’t think of any reason not to? No reason except for that little “feeling” that made no sense at all? You went ahead did it. (Because there was no reason not to, remember?) And then it happened. Something occurred because you took that particular action. Something you may not have been able to foresee, but then you wished you hadn’t done it. You wished you’d listened to … well, what is it, anyway? It’s your intuition! YOUR guide. YOUR invisible business and life partner. Now let’s look at the other end of the spectrum. You have a choice to make so your logical mind wants to come in, analyze, and decide using your usual decision-making formulas. But there’s this little “nudge” again, now telling you what you should do, even though it might seem totally unreasonable. Makes no sense at all. But you go for it… and the whole situation turns out perfect! See the picture? Kind of like an invisible force that’s there all the time to guide us. Problem is that we might not be listening for it. Or for others it might be hard to believe because it can’t be proven scientifically. In other words, it doesn’t seem “real”. Hmmmmm. It does feel kind of strange at first, to follow this unseen, unnamed friend, feeling, “inner knowing”, whatever you want to call it. But when you begin to pay attention and honor those “nudges”, amazing things happen! During the past several years I personally have begun to follow my intuition more than ever before. If something doesn’t feel “just right”, I don’t do it. It doesn’t matter if it’s what everyone else is doing, I just don’t do it. For me this comes up a lot in my two businesses. There may be a trend that many others are following or a new way of doing business and it seems lots of people are jumping on the bandwagon. Many times my decisions are based on whether or not something “feels” right … rather than if a particular system, program, or practice is inherently good or not. There are things that I could do that would bring in very large amounts of money quickly, but unless I know that it’s exactly what I’m to do, guess what? I don’t do it! Hmmmmm again! A different way of thinking, right? I could do something that could instantly generate quite a bit of money, and is not “wrong” or illegal or immoral in any way… but is just not perfectly right for me at that moment… and I don’t do it? Some people might find that crazy. But it makes me feel good. It reinforces that I’m on the right path for me. It gives me this sense of “knowing” that there’s something even better out there for me. Something WAY BETTER! Just as long as I don’t sell out to the other “good” things that I can choose from. I want exactly the right path for me. And for you. Life has so much more meaning and is usually so much more gratifying and enjoyable when we listen to our wonderful silent business partner, intuition. Greater levels of success are also found by listening for that still, small “nudge”. In fact, that’s where some of the most incredible ideas will come from! So, the next time you feel “stuck”, like you’re not really sure which way to turn, try “waiting” to hear what direction you’re to take instead of charging full steam ahead. Give yourself time specifically for that. In fact, I tell my clients to take time each day to do nothing! Get away from the work, the family, the busyness, and give yourself a chance to “hear.” Take a walk outside every day if possible. Or have a nice soak in the tub. Or find an area of your home or office that’s pleasant to you and put on some soft music and close your eyes and just sit for a while. At first they think I’m crazy, but I’m very serious. For me, my time to hear is during my daily walk. What started out as something I did to stay in shape is something I’m now addicted to. When pressures mount up or I’m faced with a decision I need to make, I’m out the door! Even when I’m not facing any major decision, I continue to take the walk…. and always get the most wonderful ideas when I do! I know better than to move when I’m not clear which way to go, and am now very comfortable with the entire process. I do want to give a word of warning though. You’ll still be moving ahead! This is not a slow, sedentary path, or an excuse for inactivity. On the contrary. Many times you’ll find it to be a very exciting, accelerated pace …. once you know what direction you’re to take! What’s funny is that to others it might appear that I’m always moving at light speed! They don’t see me when I’m not moving because I’m waiting. They see me when I’m in the middle of the projects that were born from listening to my intuition. Projects that produce tremendous success, and what’s even more important, the projects that bring my heart the most peace and joy. I hope this concept identifies with your intuition. That your heart may be filled with “knowing” that there is the perfect path for you, and all you need to do is listen to find out what it is. One more thing. As you’re learning to “listen” more … be aware that your answers may also come through people you meet, books or articles you read, something you may witness in others, or even music you’re listening to. You’re intuition will come in many ways. Just open yourself to “receiving” and you’ll begin on an incredible path indeed! I wish you ultimate peace, joy, and success, as you honor who YOU are, and happily proceed on your own wonderful journey! |
