Are You Settling for the “Crumbs” of Life?

 by Mary Jo Wehniainen

Every morning I start my day off by taking a walk at a lovely park near our home. And several times each week I come across a disturbing site which never ceases to cause my mind and heart to ponder…

In the midst of this beautiful setting, there’s a man who comes to the park and systematically drives from one dumpster to the next, rummaging through other people’s trash to find aluminum cans to recycle.

Every time I see this man ripping open bags containing God only knows what in the hopes of finding a can that will generate less than a cent, I think about the difference between him and me, and what a valuable lesson there is in this for all of us.

I also notice that while I exchange smiles and warm gestures with almost everyone else at the park, particularly the “regulars”, this man won’t even look at me. It’s as if there’s something so very deep and different between us that he can’t even look…

Hmmm.

I guess my curiosity is in great part due to the fact that just less than seven years ago my life was very much like the man at the park. Although I never rummaged through other people’s trash to earn money, I too was settling for the “crumbs” that life had to offer me.

I thought people who “had money” were different than me, and really couldn’t imagine how it could ever change. I bought all our children’s clothes at the thrift stores, always had difficulty paying our bills, and even had to get food from our church at times. And my husband was a hard worker the entire time!

Something was very wrong with that picture, but I just didn’t see it. I didn’t know there was another way.

I didn’t know the only difference between me and someone else who lived a life of abundance was ME and my belief about what was possible.

It was my thoughts, my self-talk, my worries, and the negative programming I’d been living with my entire life that kept me living very low on the scale of poverty vs. abundance.

Nobody told me there was a different way.

Nobody told me there was NOTHING stopping me from moving from one set of beliefs to the other.

I truly had NO IDEA anything else was possible for me and my life at that time!

What about the man rummaging through the trash?

Is this really what he’s chosen?

Doesn’t he see there’s another way?

Has anyone told him?

And then again, would he even listen if they did?

Sometimes accepting the “crumbs” life has to offer is painful, yet comfortable at the same time. For some people, changing might seem like such an insurmountable mountain that there’s no reason to even try.

What about you?

How many of you reading this article right now have been living way below what life has to offer you?

Far below what’s rightfully yours?

Far below what’s sitting just on the other side of your limiting beliefs?

My dear friend, a wonderful life IS waiting for you, you just have to claim it!

I believe that you’re already on your way because you’re taking time to read an article on “Success”. That’s a great place to start.

Decide what you want in life and go for it! There is nothing “real” stopping you from achieving anything you set your mind to. The only thing stopping you might be your own set of limiting beliefs … but remember, they’re not the truth.

You’re far more wonderful, capable, and deserving than you probably ever imagined. The only problem might be that nobody’s ever told you before.

*** I truly consider it a great privilege to have the opportunity to tell you the truth, right now! ***

You ARE a wonderful person and you deserve THE BEST! Whatever you want is yours for the asking! You just need to go and get it!

The days of struggle, the days of settling for less, the days of “putting up with” can be over forever. Today can be the first day of a new life for you … a life full of wonder, possibility and choices you might never have dreamed possible before.

Here are some things you can do to help change your belief about what’s possible for you.

First, you need to “turn off” the negative programming you’re inundated with on a daily basis. Shut off the TV, turn down the radio, stop listening to gossip, grumbling, complaining … and yes, that includes the evening news, at least for a period of time. All of this is extremely negative, and drains your energy whether you know it or not.

Instead, fill your mind with stories of people who did the uncommon, who won despite all odds. Listen to tapes from people who’ve defied the obstacles they’ve encountered and created a new and wonderful life for themselves and others.

If you have a chance to attend any personal growth seminars or begin spending time with positive, upbeat people, that would also be a very smart thing to do.

The are just a few suggestions that will help you replace the negative programming that keeps telling you “you’re a nobody” with “if they can do it than so can I!”

There is no reason in the world why you can’t create an incredible life, so please, GO DO IT!

My dear friends, if these words cause even one life to be changed, just ONE dumpster closed forever, then my heart is deeply blessed.

I am very excited for you, and for who you are becoming. I look forward to hearing YOUR success story one day soon!
